About Us

Our Mission

Small Wonders Big Ideas Family Center is committed to delivering high quality home based therapeutic services. Children learn and develop best through play experiences therefore our goal is to provide therapeutic services in a play environment that will enable a child to maximize their potential. 

Our Approach

Our providers have a sincere passion and dedication to a making a difference in the life of a child and their families. Our therapist focus primarily on helping children learn how to stay engaged, to play with peers appropriately, develop their social-emotional capacities, improve their communication skills and also incorporate School-transitions skills into the therapy sessions. Services are developed with the family to ensure success in child's natural environment. We strongly encourage our families to participate therefore they can implement what was achieved in the session and apply it to their daily lives as a result their child may continue to excel. 

Our Expertise

Our team consists of highly trained and experienced therapists who specialize in a variety of areas such as; social emotional, cognitive and self help skills, articulation, expressive and receptive language, fine and gross motor development. 

Services

Developmental Therapy

Developmental Therapy includes the design of learning environments and activities that promote the child’s acquisition of skills in a variety of developmental areas and provision of information and support related to enhancing the skill development of the child that enables the child to attain maximum functional levels. These activities are coordinated with all other services within the plan and provide assistance with acquisition, retention, or improvement in skills related to daily living activities, such as feeding and dressing, communicating with parents/ caregivers, and the social and adaptive skills to enable the child to reside in his/her home. 

Speech Therapy

Speech therapy includes services for children with communication (speech/language) or swallowing (eating/drinking) disorders or delays that would impact communication or feeding related to sensory integration and/or medically stable oropharyngeal disorders. Providing family education, training and support in order to assist the family in understanding the special needs of the child as well as promoting family involvement in services so they can enhance their children's learning and development.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy includes services to address the promotion of sensorimotor function through enhancement of musculoskeletal status, neurobehavioral organization, perceptual and motor development and effective environmental adaptation. Program planning to prevent, alleviate, or compensate for movement dysfunction and related functional problems, and Family training, education and support provided to assist the family of a child eligible for services in understanding the special needs of the child as related to physical therapy services and enhancing the child’s development are integral to this service.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy includes services to address the functional needs of a child related to adaptive development; adaptive behavior, restoration, and play; and sensory, motor, and postural development. These services are designed to improve the child’s functional ability to perform tasks in home, child care, and community settings. Family training, education and support provided to assist the family of a child eligible for services in understanding the special needs of the child as related to occupational therapy services and enhancing the child’s development are integral to this service. 

Interpretation Services

The responsibility of the interpreter is to interpret the words of the service coordinator and/or provider to the parent/caregiver and the words of the parent/caregiver back to the service coordinator and/or provider. The interpreter may also assist that in scheduling early intervention appointments with the family. 

Translator Services

The responsibility of the translator is to provide written translation of early intervention documents which are completed onsite, into the native language of the parent/caregiver. Acceptable documents for translation include the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP), Early Intervention evaluation/assessment reports, six-month review reports, discharge reports, and letters to the parent/caregiver from the Service Coordinator and/or EarlyIntervention Providers

Career Opportunities

SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST ASSISTANT/CFY

 Qualifications

  • Masters in Speech Language Pathology and/or who are participating in a supervised professional experience
  • Current Speech Language Pathologist Assistant License in Illinois
  • Early Intervention Credential or in progress of obtaining
  • Experience with pediatric population

Responsibilities

  • Provide one on one service to children birth to 3 in their natural settings, such as their home and/or daycare
  • Follow treatment plans or protocol developed by the supervising Speech Therapist
  • Meet with supervision on a month basis
  • Follow IFSP (Individual Family Service Plan) Goals, track and monitor progress
  • Provide family home education program
  • Communicate effectively and work closely with family members, caregivers and supervisor
